We’re a couple who share a litter of kids, cats, and a love for travelling, eating, cooking and hosting. What the Crust started off as a small restaurant, but in reality represents our passion project, the culmination of our extensive professional experience with world-class F&B and bluechip brands, and a lifelong dream to create our own ‘empire.’

Our beginnings

We believe great food is the best medium through which we can bring people and cultures together. Not fancy shmancy décor. We believe tasty, traditional, time-tested food is good for your body and your soul. Not obscurely-named marketing fads. We believe that it’s possible to offer people the chance to enjoy good food from another continent, as if they were there, without compromise. Not washed-down imitations. We also happen to believe that we can do all of that while respecting each other and the environment.

DAREEN AKKAD

owner and AVPN-trained pizzaiola

  • Over 7 years of advertising industry experience at global network agencies in the GCC, including major F&B franchises*.
  • 7 years hands-on FoH and BoH experience in F&B franchises in Canada and the UK.
  • Multilingual (English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Italian)
  • Certified Yoga instructor
  • Obviously, avid cook and baker.

AHMED HELMY

owner and full-stack business consultant

  • Over 20 years of business strategy, branding, advertising and design experience in the GCC and Europe.
  • Helped evaluate, localise and launch several major F&B franchise operations in the GCC*
  • Obviously, avid about good food.

Before starting a family, Dareen and Ahmed met professionally, and worked together across different functions on the following client accounts: Starbucks, Potbelly, Pinkberry, Dean & Delucca, Katsuya + Stark, Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, Shake Shack, and various others.

Dareen’s passion has always been bread. The Daily Kneads brings this passion to life with a range of sourdough breads, pastries and Roman-style pizza.

Although bread and pizza and related, making them for a large market is very different. That’s why TDK is a separate operating team with independent partners.

Egypt and Africa’s first and only AVPN Certified Pizzeria (member number 851) World’s 2nd AVPN Certified Pizza Truck (member number 932)

We’ve established WTC as one of Egypt’s leading pizzerias in less than 12 months of operation.
